A home for African languages, one dictionary at a time.

Language Roots Hub brings together searchable, community-built dictionaries for African languages that rarely get this kind of digital home. Each one works in the local language, French, and English, and each is free to use, online or off. How these dictionaries were built →

“A great deal of work has already been done by researchers, linguists, and communities across Africa to document and preserve African languages. Language Roots Hub is proud to add its own contribution to that effort, one dictionary at a time.”

Why this exists

Language Roots Hub is an ongoing effort to contribute to the documentation, upliftment, and preservation of African languages, the popular ones and the lesser known. We are not here to claim we are doing what no one else has done. We are simply here to do our part: building free, searchable dictionaries that anyone can use to access their mother tongue.
